From the 3rd of July, up until the 7th of July, was Hijinx’s Unity Festival, an event which provides the opportunity for disabled, learning disabled and/or autistic artists to perform on a high-profile platform. As a company, Hijinx’s aim is to provide and promote opportunities for actors with learning disabilities and/or autism, to create an inclusive arts industry by increasing representation on stage and screen.

Grant Stephens Family Law sponsored the festival, something which we are incredibly proud and honoured to be able to do, as we value and place great importance on supporting local groups within the Cardiff and wider Welsh community.

A group from Grant Stephens Family Law were invited to attend the Unity Festival launch event on Wednesday evening at the Wales Millennium Centre. The night involved speeches from some of the organisers and performers, and a speech from our own Grant Stephens, as well as performances of Enter the Robots, a new street theatre show from Hijinx and German company tanzbar_bremen, and Skin, Muscle & Bone – Pele, Músculo & Osso by Brazilian company Danca sem Fronteiras, and an opportunity to walk around the Wales Millennium Centre and see some of the exhibits on display. Everyone from our firm who went had a great evening.

Grant Stephens Family Law, as we have grown and become a bigger and more established firm in Cardiff, are always looking for more ways that we can give back to the local community. As a law firm that specialises in family law, we aim to try and support charities and organisations that support families and young people. Hijinx were the perfect example of that. Hijinx “is one of Europe’s leading inclusive theatre companies” and provides opportunities for people with learning disabilities and/or autism to get involved with theatre, on stage and on screen. They are an incredible organisation and support so many people across Wales. The Unity Festival not only brought people together from Wales, but also brought inclusive theatre and dance groups from across Europe, and from Brazil and New Zealand, to celebrate the inclusive arts world and we were honoured to have been able to support them to do this.

If you would like to see some of the highlights from the festival, then you can head to their social media pages or website to see what went on last week. @HijinxTheatre
